Annual AJ for Autism Cup!
On
Sunday, April 19, 2009, the North Penn Girl's
Rugby Football Club hosted the Blackthorn Girl's
Rugby Football Club in a regular season match at
North Penn's Knapp Elementary School field. Coach
Joe Campbell, North Penn Girls, and Coach Bryan
Moore,
Blackthorn Girls, have teamed up along with their
players and offered this match as a charity match
to raise money for The AJ Foundation.
The AJ Foundation’s
mission is to provide quality educational services
for children with autism through its private school,
The Comprehensive Learning Center, located in Southampton,
PA. The AJ Foundation raises money and awareness
for those afflicted with autism in an effort to
provide a brighter future for them. The AJ Foundation
was
founded by Joanne Corless who is the wife of Allan
Corless, President of the Blackthorn Rugby Club.
This year's Cup will
be the inaugural event for this annual match
in which the winning team will
take
possession of the Cup's trophy until the following
year's match. AJ for Autism Cup Commemorative
T-shirts were worn by both teams during warm
ups and by
the coaching staff during the match. The AJ
Foundation distributed Autism wrist bands to
the members of
both teams following the match and The North
Penn Girls are hoping to make a $1000 donation
to the
AJ Foundation.
The match itself was played on a beautiful
spring day with temps in the upper 60’s. Both squads
battled well with the North Penn Girls taking the
early lead and the Blackthorn Girls charging back
in the second half. North Penn ended taking the
first cup with a score of 15-10. North Penn Captain
Hannah
Geverd is shown receiving the Cup trophy from Joanne
Corless.
